Cooling for the AI Era: CREMER OleoServ Builds Production Capacity for Data Center Cooling Fluids

“Today’s challenges require us to rethink CPU cooling in data centers and, with it, the production of cooling fluids,” says Andreas Tänzer, Business Manager at CREMER OleoServ. “Production capacity needs to be built quickly, processes tested under real world conditions, and scaled up to large volumes on short notice. The task called for a practical solution to a technically and organizationally complex challenge that also required thinking outside the box. This is exactly the kind of challenge we enjoy taking on.”

The Biggest Challenge: Tight and Precise Timing

Alongside its regular production, CREMER OleoServ had to meet high demand for cooling fluid in production campaigns within a short timeframe. Andreas Tänzer explains: “The biggest challenge was coordinating every production step with tight and precise timing to ensure the required output in a three shift operation." This required a precisely calculated timeline for every step of the production and logistics process:

• Delivery of materials and empty containers, including incoming goods inspections
• Loading the mixers and blending
• Sampling, quality control, release and transfer to storage tanks
• Filling, labeling and pickup of finished products

Every production step was planned down to the minute, defining exactly how much time was required, when materials, personnel and equipment had to be available, and how individual batches would move through the facility. External project partners, including suppliers, logistics providers and laboratories, were also closely integrated and had to ensure sufficient equipment and staffing during the production campaign periods.

From the Timeline to the Production Floor

The timeline was followed by extensive testing to determine how the process developed on paper could be implemented and optimized in practice. One key advantage at CREMER OleoServ is that the status of every batch can be tracked digitally on site at any time.

A three shift operation was also introduced specifically for this project. External staff support the existing teams and were thoroughly trained in the relevant processes. Especially during tightly scheduled production campaigns, everyone involved needs to be able to rely on each other at all times.

The short decision making paths at the rather small site were a key advantage for the project’s success. Issues could be discussed and resolved directly on site. Production, planning, quality assurance, logistics and external partners worked closely together.

Within just a few months, CREMER OleoServ developed, tested and optimized the complete production process and brought it into live operation. What began as a complex challenge became a reliable process for producing large volumes of cooling fluid.
